Reflux symptoms are commonly encountered in clinical practice. The vast majority of patients with typical reflux symptoms and no red flags may be placed on an
empirical course of proton pump inhibitors (PPI). Patients with red flag findings require prompt further evaluation. Patients with symptoms not responding to PPI will require review of their compliance to PPI, clarification on which symptoms remain unresponsive
and further evaluation in a directed manner.
