The routine vaccines in the national Immunization program covers nine diseases; namely tuberculosis, hepatitis b, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps and rubella. The coverage of the vaccines have been high and have resulted in decline of these diseases. This article reviews the history of the vaccines and the impact of vaccination on these diseases.KEYWORDs: national immunization prog ramme,
